Teen Group 8/2/2013

Teen Group: We will be doing ongoing projects every month. I will post dates and items we are in need of here on his blog. (This blog is just in need of updating.)

Project items we are in need of: (You do not need to donate items to be a part of our group!)
I will post iems in the future here.

We will be collecting New Pillows for the Dove Center. Domestic Violence and Rape recovery center. They will come and meet with us once we collect them and talk to us for 30 minutes. My idea is our group will have a P.J party to celebrate this project. The facilty gives the clients new pillows when they come in the center.

The Dixie Care and Share is getting back to me and I will update project as soon as I know.

Homeless Ziplock bags: We will be assembling bags for homeless. I will be talking to the goup on Friday about this.

We will be in need of families in our area we can help. Such as cleaning, caring for their kids, service of some sort?  Please share your resources with me.

I would like about 10-15 teens in our group.

We will be making Fleece blankets for Primary Children's hospital. Bring any fleece if you have any.

We will be making bags out of plastic bags for a lady who takes them to Africa every year. I do not know how to make them yet. Save your grocery bags. :)

Those are just a few things Oh, and Our Elderly in Our area, we will be visiting them soon! I have to make a phone call. We can take baked goods, talk with them, play cards, paint nails and I think it will be on a Saturday.

Make note that we all have busy lives and cant do it all alone but together I think we will do great things! If we provide opportunity for our teens to serve it will fill them with love and Joy! You can help as little or as much as you choose. I will always let you know whats on the Calendar every week. If you can help, great and if not, no problem! I am great at texting as well. The best life classes

I am not sure how I stumbled upon these but am I ever so grateful! I feel it is my duty to help my children in many ways and one that is huge on my list for myself and children is huge! Or just really important. We all have a purpose in life. Who am I? Not just I am a Mom or a Dr. etc but really who am I, what is my purpose, and my favorite is connecting with your spirit, your soul inside your physical body. Anyways, I can carry on all day and night about ways and reasons but the below links have really brought me to a beautiful place in my life. Now. And I wanted to share them with you. My children enjoy them, we still have two of them to watch tho. At night or in the morning I try to recap somethings I have learned in these classes with my children. The world is a big place and as much peace and joy I can help them feel the better. (The following is not from the classes above) I have them breathe in some essential oils, clear their minds, write down whatever is heavy on their shoulders(anger, whatever troubles, issues etc.) then they tear it up and throw it away and leave them behind. Then they say a prayer thank before you ask. Then I show a clip from one of the classes like 3-4 mins. we chat about it and then I play a short song like have I done any good in the world today. It is so important we give our children the inspiration everyday as many times a day as we can. Even if its a minute. Enough preaching! Here are the class links, I love them!!!! And will watch them over and over again. They are that good to me. :)

If I could figure out how to load my pictures onto my blog from my phone, I would blog daily! But, I don't know how and so I facebook them. Anyways, A friend has died at the age of 42. She was in My Eldorado Ward. And it is sad. I plan to go to her funeral on Saturday. However, all 3 of my girls are sick. Your lucky I didn't load any pictures from my phone b/c my dog puked tonight on my carpet in my bedroom. Poor Luna! Frank is away working and I don't want to leave sick kids home even though my Mom and Dad live at the end of our street. Yes, we are lucky to have family so close. I am soaking it all up b/c I still have high hopes of living in Europe one day. A- Our dog is too old to travel and B- Aubrey is almost 18 C- Andrew has a girl that is his friend and Alaina has her friends. Although, they grow fast and in less than 6 years they will all be 18! So, no worries. I will cont. to enjoy the NOW. :) We went to California last week. We visited our cousins and celebrated Alaina's 12th birthday. Poor thing has Mono now. She is a treat to have. She is very creative and is in her school play right now but has missed all week b/c of her illness. :( We also visited our loved ones graves in California. It was very lovely indeed. I am amazed that Anthony would be 20 this year. And I don't feel one bit old either! Yeah:) Well.I.plan.to.get.some.photos.up.soon.! I take about 100 a day. Mostly of food. I have no complaints, happy school is over in 4 weeks! Woo-hoo! Did u know I drive 3-6 hours a day. I love my kids charter schools. And so, I drive 45 mins each way. Depends on how many times I drive back and forth in one day. But usually 3 hours a day. Unless, I go more than usual like play practice, a sick kid, different times etc. Or if I go to Vegas and back while they are in school which I do. I love my kids with all my heart and I think it is my job to do what is in their best of interest. So, Europe here we come! Just kidding Kids! I would never leave Luna! :) Cupcake

Celery and Cucumber Juice

Fresh celery is an excellent source of vitamin-K. Vitamin-K help increase bone mass by promoting osteotrophic activity in the bones. It also has established role in Alzheimer's disease patients by limiting neuronal damage in the brain.

Celery juice is highly nutritious and one of the most hydrating foods we can put in our bodies. Because it is incredibly alkalizing, it equalizes the body's PH, which is vital for peak health. In ancient times, it was considered a medicinal herb used to treat a variety of health complaints. The minerals and vitamins and nutrients are in perfect harmony with each other. Celery leaves are high in vitamin A, whilst the stems are an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C and dense in potassium, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, sodium and essential amino acids.

This super food also contains important concentrations of plant hormones and the very special essential oils that give celery its characteristic smell. These oils help to regulate the nervous system, and are very calming.

Celery is rich in sodium, which is very different to table salt. Normal table salt is composed of insoluble inorganic compounds which lead to the development of varicose veins, hardening of the arteries and other aliments. If salt, including sea salt is white, then it has been processed and all minerals and nutrients have been destroyed.

On the other hand, the sodium that is available in celery is soluble and organic (live), and is essential for the body. Organic salt allows the body to use the other nutrients that are taken into the body. Every cell in our body is constantly bathed in a salt solution, and if the salt level is not in balance, dehydration occurs. This is why celery juice is a perfect rehydration drink for athletes.

Other Benefits of Celery Juice

Fights Cancer- Celery is known to contain at least eight families of anti-cancer compounds. A study at Rutgers University of New Jersey found that celery contains a number of compounds that help prevent cancer cells from spreading. Celery contains compounds called acetylenics and this compound has been shown to stop the growth of tumor cells. Celery contains other compounds called phonolic acids that block the action of hormone-like substances called prostaglandins, which encourage the growth of tumor cells. Coumarins, another phytonutrient in celery helps prevent free-radicals from damaging cells and prevent the formation and development of the colon and stomach cancers.

Lowers Cholesterol- Laboratory studies also indicate that butyl phthalide, a chemical in celery, may help reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol. According to researchers at the University of Chicago, celery reduces cholesterol levels by as much as 7 points with as little as 2 stalks a day. Celery also aids in increasing bile acid secretion which helps to remove cholesterol from the body.

Aids in Digestion- Special nutrients in the fiber are released during juicing that aid bowel movements. This makes celery a natural laxative that helps to relieve constipation. It also helps relax nerves that have been overworked by man-made laxatives.

Diuretic- The potassium and sodium in celery juice are powerful body fluid regulators that stimulate urine production to help rid the body of excess fluid.

Anti Inflammatory- The polyacetylene in celery is an amazing relief for all inflammation including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, asthma and bronchitis. A study published in the Proceeding of the National Academy of Science U.S.A found that another powerful phytonutrient called luteolin prevents activation of a pathway that allows inflammation in the brain to get switched on. Luteolin also inhibits the excess production of TNF-alpha, a direct cause of inflammation. Juice is the most efficient and nutritious way to eat celery, and people who have these conditions can drink as much juice as desired without overdosing.

Lower blood pressure- Celery's potential for reducing high blood pressure has long been recognized by Chinese medicine. Studies show that drinking celery juice every day for 1 week can significantly help lower blood pressure. A compound called phtalides helps relax the muscles around the arteries, dilating the vessels and allowing blood to flow smoothly. Pthalides also reduce stress hormones, one of whose effects is to cause blood vessels to constrict. When researchers injected 3-n-butyl phthalide derived from celery into laboratory animals, the animals' blood pressure dropped 12 to 14 percent. Celery amazingly doesn't lower blood pressure which is already low.

Insomnia- The minerals and essential oils in celery juice have a calming effect on the nervous system, making it beneficial for insomniacs. Its high magnesium levels help people to relax into a soothing and restful sleep.

Weight loss- Drinking celery juice frequently throughout the day helps curb cravings for sweet. It is filling without putting any extra pounds on.

Elimination and Prevention of stones- Celery juice is an amazing eliminator of toxins from the body, which aids in the breaking and elimination of urinary and gall bladder stones. This lovely juice helps those who have suffered from stones from getting them again.

Increased Sexuality- Celery juice is beneficial for weak sexuality, yet doesn't cause an uncontrollable urge as some pharmaceutical drugs do. Celery balances the system rather than increasing it.

Celery can be juiced with any other fruits or vegetables. A particularly delicious and powerful combination is carrot, apple, cucumber and celery.

Benefits of Juicing a Cucumber

Nutritional Benefits
Cucumber has an impressive amount of water (about 96%) that is naturally distilled, which makes it superior to ordinary water.  Its skin contains a high percentage of vitamin A, so should not be peeled off.
The cucumber contains alkaline-forming minerals and is an excellent source of vitamin C and A (anti-oxidants), folate, manganese, molybdenum, potassium, silica, sulfur, and lesser amounts of vitamin B complex, sodium, calcium, phosphorus and chlorine.
You have seen beauty practitioners use slices of cucumber on their eyes.  It is found that the caffeic acid in this vegetable helps to prevent water retention and when applied topically, helps reduce puffy and swollen eyes.

Health Benefits of Cucumber:

It rids the body of extra fluids and removes toxins and harmful wastes from the body. The flesh contains adequate quantity of vitamin C, folic acid and vitamin A. The hard skin of cucumber contains a lot of fiber. It has adequate silica and assists in strengthening bones, ligaments, blood vessels and tendons. Other minerals that are found in skin of cucumber are magnesium and potassium.

Keeps body hydrated and cool

Cucumber has 96% water content that is more nutritious than ordinary water and it helps in keeping the body hydrated and regulates the body temperature. It also helps in getting rid of the toxic elements of the body by flushing them out.

Treats high blood pressure

Juice of cucumber contains a lot of potassium, magnesium and traces of sodium that work effectively for regulating blood pressure. This makes cucumber good for treating both low and high blood pressure.

Treats acidity

Cucumber juice is essentially alkaline in nature due to the minerals it contains. Hence it is very effective in curing acidity in people by neutralizing the pH content of the body. Apart from acidity it also acts as a soothing agent for gastric ulcers.

Cures skin problems

Cucumber skin contains silica that helps in forming healthier connective tissue for the skin giving the person a healthier skin, cartilage, bone, tendons, ligaments and muscles. Cucumber is very useful for skin problems, sunburns and also for curing swelling under the eyes. Beauticians have been using cucumber generously and advice placing cucumber slices on the eyes. It contains caffeic acid which assists in preventing water retention. Placing two cucumber slices on eyes for ten minutes can reduce the puffiness considerably. Cucumber is also known to be beneficial for curing skin diseases like eczema. Cucumber oil when combined with olive oil is excellent for curing blackheads, acne, boils etc. Vitamin A, B & C in cucumber helps maintain a healthy and glowing skin.

Promotes healthy hair growth

Cucumber is rich in silicon and sulphur and thus a regular intake can help promote healthy hair growth. For having healthy hair it is recommended to add cucumber juice with carrot juice, lettuce juice or spinach juice.

Cucumber contains natural salts and vitamins which are good for cell growth. Its high mineral content provide natural source of antioxidants. Because of water base it is very useful as diuretic. It has cleansing action inside body by removing old waste. It assists in eliminating uric acid and is good for those who have arthritis. Mixture of cucumber and carrot juice is excellent for rheumatic conditions.

Prevents water retention

Cucumber contains caffeic and ascorbic acids which prevent water retention. It is helpful for burns, swollen eyes and dermatitis. Chinese believe that cucumber has high cooling effect but is not suitable for those having rheumatism. However, there are reports that suggest otherwise as cucumber can help reduce the uric acid of the body and be beneficial for rheumatic patients. On taking cucumber the joints get cleaned. It assists in inflamed conditions like asthma, gout and arthritis.

Helpful for diabetics

Research has shown that cucumber contains a hormone that is required by the pancreas to produce more insulin and is thus an essential diet for diabetics. Also the carbohydrate content in cucumber is nutrient carbohydrates and so the glycemic index of cucumber is zero. These carbohydrates are quickly digested and do not increase the sugar level in diabetics and can be easily consumed. Also due to its skin healing properties it is highly recommended for diabetics as generally the healing process in diabetics is comparatively much slower.

Helpful for treating pyorrhea

Cucumber is very useful for treating various teeth and gums related problems especially pyorrhea as it is a rich source of vitamin C.

Helpful for losing weight

Cucumber is high on the list for diet to be taken for weight loss. Its high water content and no calories make it ideal for losing weight effectively. It keeps the body satiated with water and keeps away hunger pangs and at the same time does not add to the fat intake. The high water content flushes out the toxins from the body. Its anti-oxidants prevent the free radicals from causing any harm to the body’s cellular structure too.

We are home from Paris, Sad! I posted a ton of pictures on my Facebook.
Our apartment we stayed in was lovely.  In the picture you can see two of the lights on. That was the living room light and the kitchen. To the left of it was the bedrooms.  122 stairs up, yes, there was a lift but
I grew to love stairs and miss them dearly! Everything was beautiful, so BEAUTIFUL! Frank and I stayed in Paris last year for one week then we went to Italy. This time we took the kids and stayed for an entire month. The plan was to live as they do and we did. We walked and took the train everywhere we went except the airport. If you look on my facebook you can see all the fun things we did.  Blessed, I feel so blessed. If it is true home is where the heart is, then my home is Paris. Don't get me wrong, I love our new small town. Big City girl (ME) O.C. to Vegas to Small town, I myself am shocked how much I like it here!
I love that Frank and I (and the dog) have the entire upstairs to OURSELVES! And the children and their pets have the entire basement to themselves! LOVE that the most about this house. My Mom lives on the same street plus I have 3 sisters and their families close by. I have found fun things here. OH Yes, I love their Library too! I can ride my bike to the store and put a few items in my basket and ride home. Love that too! Yep, Until I can get back to Paris, I think this is our home!  I really miss that place, a lot! Love to all, April
P.S. I have to speak next Sunday in Church.
Thanks to my wonderful Dad,:)!

Half Marathon

I ran my half marathon today. :) And it was awesome, and I mean that in a different way. So, when I got to the big hill, I started to panic! Lame but true and I had a great idea. I would flip around and run backwards because my booty seems to give me a little more power. I move couches etc. with my booty/hips vs using my arms. So, I would run forwards, speed walk and flip around backwards and wa~La, I was up that big hill. And I used the out house and sipped a little water. Oh Baby! Bad idea about using my back side to power me up hill! I shortly realized I hurt my knee, my left knee. All the runs I have done (NO races ever) first one, I have never had a knee issue!  So, I was like crap let me walk, okay let me try and run and soon I realized if I keep trying to run, I wont be able to walk the rest of the way! Boo-Hoo, NOT! I am grateful to my Heavenly Father because I have a dear sweet friend who has cancer and during the 7 miles I walked, side galloped ( loved that trick but may lose my rt toe nail because the load it had to haul:) I cried not because I was mad at myself because trust me, I wanted to be really mad with myself but I couldn't. Man, I still want to be mad at myself but I am not. I am grateful, a very grateful little lady.:)! And I am thankful I wasn't physically able to run the last idk- 7 or so miles! FYI, I did finish! I wanted to finish in like 2:20 ish but It ended up being 3:11 and I galloped across the finish line- woo-hoo! Also, it was super WINDY and cold! Also, Andrew and Aubrey did a 5K today. Awesome kids of course they rocked it! I did not get to see them tho, but I am proud of them. Back to my friend, if you saw her, you would say, Oh she is a cute girl. And she looks and acts normal and you wouldn't know how much she does! Let me tell you, when I was in the primary presidency, I was like what? At that point she really couldn't walk on her own, in fact she used a walker then. (She doesn't now:) But she would come on Sundays and not only teach her cute class (big class- a few wild ones too) but she would bring like a printer and takes pics of her kids to make things etc. At our meetings I would think she needs out and I was told nope she LOVES her class. I would be amazed every time I would see her. So, I saw her a few weeks ago and she was looking super hot! I didn't even take a picture and that I am mad at myself for!!!! She is doing Chemotherapy now, every Thursday in fact. God bless her! She is my Hero and I love her dearly. Maybe, when my knee is better and she is better we will gallop together. Until then my thoughts are with her and every Thursday I think about her having her treatments. 6 months she has, I think? I have moved and we just got our last load here late last night. My kids are never home because Grandma lives down the street. And Grandpa too! Of course they are more fun than me and they don't make them clean or work because they are ALL about the fun! TRUST ME! Monday- Saturday we will be back in Vegas for Aubrey and Andrew's Shakespeare play. Tickets are $10 if you want to go, it's funny and worth seeing. Call me or text me if you want to go. May 6th @ 7:00 PM, May 7th 12 noon and 7:00 PM. Also, a matinee performance May 6th at 12 noon for $5. W/Love, April

It seems and is true that so many people I know are moving!
Kinda crazy but several people I know are moving. (More than 10)
Here is to happy packing:) Call me if you need any help because it is always easier for me to help others! Yes, we are moving too! It will be fine once it's all said and done. I hope anyways.:)! It's kinda like running for me. When I go running, I can't think about the fact that I am running. Simply because I hate running but love how I feel after. 16 years is a long time to be in one state. So, from the O.C to Vegas and now to a small town. O-My! In the mean time I will keep moving forward and keep my faith alive.:)! It might seem crazy but Frank and I both feel we are making the right choice and although this was nowhere in our plans, we are trying to get everything done. I have cried and been depressed many times in my life and when I head down that road I am aware and stop it now. Well, I have plans and back up plans. Anyways, I almost went down that road this week and I am thankful my Heavenly Father snapped me right out of it! Yeah:)! It is so easy to slip and I am so blessed to have so many amazing examples in my life. When I came here from California where I was born and raised, I wanted a change. Mainly, I didn't want people to feel sorry for me. Because my son Anthony had passed away and the kindness and sweet people just felt bad for me! I was young too. Anyways, I moved here when Aubrey was just 5 1/2 months old. God gave me her because she gave me a reason to live.:)! And that is why he took my son when he did. I am forever thankful he gave me her and the timing too. Yes, heart broken and much sadness at the time. Time passes fast and sometimes I am better off just not thinking about stuff. Like moving.

LDS Charities Peter's Roof

I loved the message in this video.  I posted 4 videos all on different post. This one I watched last and I had that thought........(I'LL get back to that thought in a second)
For some odd unknown reason most Sunday mornings I read something or watch something or just think about something. It never FAILS on these kind of Sunday mornings I go to church and whatever I watched, read or thought about seems to be what the lesson is about. I have no doubt in my mind it's a gift I am being given.
Anyways, back to that thought.... My thought was this, Christmas is a time when most of the world thinks of Our Savior Jesus Christ. I loved Christmas day and want it everyday because of the peaceful family day it was. Often I ponder how I can teach my children to do better because I know better and want the best for them always! I love them so much and I think my love for them is just like our Father in Heavens love for us. He wants us to be happy, he will always forgive us, if we ask- repent, he is our Father no matter where we live, no matter our race etc, and we are all sisters and brothers in his eyes. This is why I love this video so much! The example of Christ like service and lives. We all are on our own roads/paths to returning home.(Heaven) And we don't know when we wont have a tomorrow. (Death)  We will all run out of tomorrows, think about it. My thought is that keeping Christ in our daily lives can help us have Christmas everyday. Not all the shopping/spending Christmas,  but the peace, love, family, serving and happiness. Christ can lead us back to Our Father in Heaven and by following his example we are led to happiness. Think, ponder and pray is on my mind. :) And that I will be doing.

My mind said, No! And my body said, yes!
Our minds simple have lots  of power and I just had to do mind over matter yesterday:)
Why? Well, My sisters, Mom and I are doing couch to 5K. So, all 6 of us plan on starting it after Thanksgiving.  I simply hate to run but I know it is really good for me overall. So, I ran 6 miles yesterday:)
I use to do that that 3 times a week but that was like a year ago.
Now, I  do think running is bad on my joints. I don't know but I will do whatever my sisters are doing:) Maybe?
Any advice on that? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?

New Orleans:)

Hi there:)

  • We went to New Orleans last week. We came home late Saturday evening. It was truly a blast:) Although Frank, Aubrey and I had to do minor work/school stuff on the computer here and there, it was fine:) We are LUCKY like that! Just bring it with us.
  • Highlights of our trip are:
  • Emeril's for dinner Bam! Kick it up a Knotch:)
  • Carriage ride in the French Quarters. We all loved it! We had a great time and learned some cool History facts.
  • The New Orleans Zoo- We all love animals(Frank does think it is mean to cage them up)  it was really fun!
  • Cafe Du Monde- Hands down Andrew's favorite place:)
  • We also got to watch them make them.
  • We made some from scratch last night<---Andrew did.
  • We went to La Boulangerie. And it was French owned- the owners were from Paris. It was yummy just like the ones I had in Paris, so yummy!
  • French Market- Always good food there.
  • Alligator I think I liked it the best. It was yummy to me:) The kids all tried it.
  • Andrew Jackson square, the Cathedral, the people, Art etc.We walked around the French quarter,  So much history.
  • Brad Pitt's home and Sandra Bullocks home:)
  • Frank and Aubrey went on a Vampire tour- So not my thing and SO theirs:) Happy the 2 like the VooDoo. Aubrey LOVED it! 2 peas in a pod on that one:)
  • The convent- Hands down my favorite. I love Nuns because it's just  cool to me. I respect them for what they do and I LOVE mother Teresa. LOVE her! We went inside and it was really cool stuff and of course the history is remarkable as well. They also have the most beautiful garden ever. I do respect people and whatever they believe. We all have the same Father in Heaven period. And we are all equal period.
  • The girls got fun masks and we all really had fun. We have to go back because there is just way to much history we didn't get to see. I am pushing for December but the odds may not be in my favor. We are going to Reno and Lake Tahoe in December.

Boring posting without pictures but better than nothing, I suppose. All my pics are you know, on Facebook. That click of a button from my phone is fast and easy:) Anyways, here is my updates.
  • School is going and I still love it. My favorite things about this year is 8:00 French class. Mostly because Frank teaches it:) We are all learning it together. And it's fun:) Hard but fun!
  • My kids are happy, I love happy kids.
  • Aubrey and Andrew will be in a Shakespeare play the first week in May. I love it that they have awesome mentors for English, History, and Math. (Blessed) Aubrey was watching Much to do about nothing and I loved hearing her laughing.
  • Alaina is loving learning. She is a bit like me. She will find a way to get what she wants. Like she wants a hamster right now. She wanted a Pot belly pig and I like them too but ya, No! Not now anyways:) If you need  someone to feed your pet or walk it or ? She would do it for free and be happy:)
  • Shows- We just went to Tournament of the Kings. We loved it and seen it a few times now.
  • Cher- Frank and I went to her show last night. It was really enjoyable and Frank said he really liked it too. I am bummed that she looks better than me:( No, Really she looks GOOD! I kept on studying her face, like how can you look so beautiful. We had 5th row seats and I had my glasses on in order to see her better. So, I rank her really high for looking so good for her age. It's a really beautiful smooth look. Like it all flows, u know what I mean.
  • Work is work:) I still enjoy selling houses/condos:)
  • Perks to homeschooling are endless:)
  • Paris.... Yes, I am really getting so excited! We are all going to Paris for a month. After the kids play. However, Frank knows I plan to stay! He said that is fine. Actually, we LOVE our dog! And we can't live outside the country because we LOVE our dog and she is old and couldn't do that process. My Mom prays that my dog will NEVER die! And I told my Mom that is fine too because we love our dog dearly:)
  •  New Orleans- We are taking the kids to New Orleans in a few weeks. I am so excited because I love New Orleans! Frank asked me to marry him in New Orleans. Lots of history there.
  • Not so funny but the second year now that I made sure everyone in my house got their flu shot:) But me and bam, flu, who? Me:( UGH! Boo! HOO!
  • I spoke in Church a few weeks ago. I loved all the studying I did. I should pretend I have to speak every Sunday, you know how much I'd learn. But then again maybe I'll die younger if I learn faster and well, I don't want that:) No worries, I just am here to amuse myself:)
  • Have a great week and reach for your goals and make things happen.
  • What you get out of life is what you put into it:)
  • Au revoir
